Top 10 Reasons Why Beyonce is a Bold Bright Beauty

20140904-060605-21965497.jpgQueen Bey. Beyoncé. Mrs. Knowles-Carter. The superstar Birthday Girl  AKA Sasha Fierce barely needs an introduction, she sets the trends in music, fashion and beauty. But in case you are somehow confused of how she could be so bold. We’ll explain why she’s a #boldbrightbeauty!

1. Because Beyonce Loves Her Family

Beyoncé is obviously in love with her hubby Jay-Z and her daughter Blue Ivy, but it’s not JUST about the Knowles-Carter empire. Beyoncé embraces her musical family and sisterhood with Solange and Kelly in a truly genuine way.

2. She’s Always Been a Winner

From singing Star Search, to local Texan music and beauty contests; Beyoncé is no stranger to ambition. She learned to work hard and strive for greatness from the beginning and hasn’t looked back since.

3. She was Bold Enough to Step out on her Own

Growing up as lead to one of the most successful girl vocal groups had to be a lot of pressure, and leaving her friends to pursue her career independently had to be even harder. Nevertheless, Beyonce tapped into her courageous side to embark on one of the most successful careers of female pop vocalists of all time.

4. She takes Fashion Risks

Beyoncé never ceases to amaze us on the red carpet or even on vacay. Her apt to embrace creative fashion, bold colors, prints and statements through clothing is on the cutting edge of glam.

5. She Cut off All her Hair

Everyone knows, the big chop is definitely a big deal! Beyoncé took hers like a pro. Plus, her custom color stayed true to her blonde fierceness.

6. And then Graced the Floor with her 30 Plus Inches

The big chop took a back seat to several styles including a blonde ombré bob and wavy chin length tresses. The ultimate slay however, was her hair look in the September Issue of CR Fashion Book. Forget 22inches hunny; floor length is how she gets down.

7. When SHE Got Box Braids, We All Got Box Braids

Lol. But didn’t we though? Even my girl Christina Aguilera was tryna rock with the Poetic Justice flow.

8. Her Heart is Humble

Regardless of non-profit issue or cause, Beyonce has the most genuine and humble spirit in regards to philanthropy. Her passion for her family and her music is evident but her gratitude towards fans is what pulls at our hearts the most.

9. But She Can Still Turn Up and Get Ratchet!

Everyone knows when her unannounced, self-titled album came out in December 2013, their eyes widened and hips rolled. She’s a grown woman obviously, but anyone who will tell all the bitches to bow down, in gangsta grillz… #beentrill.

10. She Makes Bold & Bright Boss Moves

Beyonce and Jay-Z’s On The Run Tour grossed more than 100million dollars, (More than $5 million a show) making it one of the most successful tours ever (next to Bruce Springteen’s and U2’s World Tours). From Cosmetics and Hair Endorsements, to movie roles and award show performances, Beyonce is careful with her brand and clearly makes bold boss moves.

If That’s not a Bold Bright Beauty, IDK what is! Check out our cool Beyonce Birthday Tribute On Instagram!

Beyonce for CR Fashion Book: Hair Anyone?

beyonce hair

Beyonce is slaying this month to a glorious close! First, with her flawless performance on the MTV VMAs and next, with a dazzling appearance on the cover of CR Fashion book. In case you’re wondering, CR Fashion Book is a magazine by Vogue Paris former Editor-in-Chief, Carine Roitfeld. The real question here is who are the pros responsible for this flawless face and tantalizing tress?

Star of WE TV’s LA Hair and Celebrity Stylist Kim Kimble, rocked the hair. The 30″ plus hair was left hanging to the floor in this shot, and swirled to a sophisticated ponytail in others. On face, celebrity makeup artist, Francesca Tolot, a recurring artist for Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and supermodel Cindy Crawford, added a dramatic smoke to the eye and nude glow to the lips. Francesca’s coffee table book, One Woman, 100 Faces, includes a forward by Queen Bey herself, and photos of two decades worth of looks by the famous face painter.  One Woman, 100 Faces is available in stores, September 14th and on Amazon.com for pre-order, now!

LOCS Anyone?

Three and a half years ago, I was in a complete natural hair debacle. I had a full fro, but because of a mild case of traction alopecia and minimal hair loss in the crown my sides and top were shot. With restless hands and an insatiable thirst to look fabulous, I did what any beauty would do, sought the perfect form of extensions. But this time, I took an interesting route; I sought loc extensions. After careful deliberation (well as careful as finding them and saying I’m in!), I purchased human hair locs, doused them in a cleansing solution for hours and then sat through a 6 hour process in which each of them were sewn onto my kinky, curly hair and voila!

Funny thing is, when I returned to college in January ( I got them during Christmas break), no one could really put their finger on what had happened. I gave some stories like, “I had them under my weave extensions,” (which was completely delusional because my loc extensions were mid-back in length) and “I’ve always had them”- They Bought It! Fast forward to 2014; my natural hair locked as it grew into the loc extensions and last October, I cut all of the extensions off to achieve a 100% natural Loc bob. Oh and NOW,
everybody has locs!

Fauxlocs are ACTUALLY a thing now! There are three different kinds of the typical loc extension. The first, is the one I described, in which locs that have been grown on another person’s head are cut, cleaned and then attached to another person’s head. This is the most realistic type of loc extension and with current techniques, the only giveaway is time! The second is the use of human Afro kinky hair which is twisted, knotted or hooked into a loc, and attached to the hair; either initially or as an attachment. Finally, there is the synthetic wrapping technique. This produces a completely temporary loc produced by wrapping the natural hair with the extension from root to tip. Performing artist Ciara has this kind which results in a bit of a shiny finish (depending on the type of hair used), and is a good option for a protective style. Whichever option is best for you, remember; synthetic fibers tend to be heavy, so have your stylist use care when attaching an extension so that there is not excessive stress on the scalp or strands. Loc options 2 and 3 should not be kept any longer than 3 months. Finally, if you are using option 1, make sure you choose locs with the right diameter, length and texture. After all, they’ll be permanently yours in a few months. Now, go loc it up! Use the hashtag #bbblocs to share your #fauxloc journey!

The Weekend Wind-Down

Weekends are a great time to unwind. Catching up on Lifetime’s Little Women of LA and Concert Series’ have been my summer 2014 faves! No matter what yours is, I suggest that we beauties always take time to treat our skin over the weekend. Usually, I try and go at least one full day without makeup. If I haven’t had the chance to do general grooming like waxing, and or tweezing I take care of that so that the redness will be completely gone and pores closed by Monday. Next, I seek an intense facial rejuvenating treatment like a peel, salt scrub or cleansing brush to remove dead skin cells and reveal a fresh new layer. Regardless of what I do, exercise, diet and rest always has the greatest affect on my skin. It never fails! These three consistently alleviate under eye circles, tiredness and excess wrinkles. What steps have you taken to support your skin this summer? Opted for a bronzer or suntan rather than full foundation? Taken extra time to cleanse and moisturize each day? Perfect! Whatever choice you make to keeping your skin healthy, odds are, it’s a good one! Stay beautiful!

Trend Alert: Cuticle Tattoos

I caught Good Morning America the other day and to my surprise it’s just as the beauty segment is beginning! Lucky me right? I was happy to find a new nail trend: cuticle tattoos. The finger/hand tattoo trend has been around for some time, having several celebrities like Beyonce  and Rihanna  with tattoo rings and letters on their forefingers. But as a tattoo-less, single lady, I kind of felt left out! These cuticle tattoos are just what Dr. Ink ordered. To apply, cut out the desired shape, stick it to the skin and hold a damp cotton ball to the back for 15-30 seconds until it slides off and Voila! Ultra chic, bold, and they have just the right amount of temporary appeal to let me go BOW! outside of the boardroom.

Trend Forecast: Sangria Color

As #boldbrightbeauty lovers, we MUST stay abreast of all of the hottest color trends. So, while watching the 2014 Billboard awards, amidst a sea of black, ombre blonde do’s and legs, I noticed an odd ball,  Melissa Barrera.  As star of the reality show, The Chica’s Project, Barrera may be a reality tv underdog but her  sangria-colored hair  on the Billboard red carpet was to dye for! Sangria isn’t JUST one of the most popular summer drink staples. In fact, Sangria has been named the 2014 Fall Color Trend by Pantone. Pantone calls sangria,  “An exotic red that evokes a sense of glamorous adventures and faraway destinations.” Maybe I’m a rebel, but all this random weather has me wanting to indulge in fall beauty trends. Wanna stay on the bright side? Not to worry. The sangria color trend will always betrending, in beauty and beyond. Take a look!

Recovering from A Beat Down? #CoveritUp

Clearly there MUST be something in the air because I have seen/heard of  1 TOO Many beat downs this weekend! Poor babies! The way reality tv is going these days, the Solange on Jay-Z beat down didn’t surprise me. Honestly, it’s probably not the first time things have gotten physical. Nevertheless, for those fights that can’t be avoided,  try the new Kat Von D Lock it  Tattoo Foundation. For just $34.00 at Sephora, this foundation will cover any bruise, scar or burn incurred from a variety of beat down scenarios. It is Extremely thick! However, you can dilute the heaviness of foundation by mixing with a light moisturizer or even a tad bit of water. Guys, got into a squabble at a bar, but have a really important meeting tomorrow? Grab a sample! Then take a q-tip, dabble it onto the darkened area only, and blend carefully. Once complete, dab a little white, odorless body powder over the site with a clean fingertip or tissue. Ladies you can use your favorite colorless HD setting powder, but for fellas, powder will do the trick! Good luck and please #ElevateResponsibly LOL

Moody in May

LeChat Mood Gel Color

LeChat Perfect Match Mood Gel Color

2014 has been a a great one yal! I’ve been working and sweatin’ – dancing and cookin’ all in a happy mood. But I’ll be honest, ever so often, I get a little low. I usually turn to devotionals, inspirational social media posts and exercise, but lately, I’ve learned to celebrate my mood with nothing better than mood gel nail polish! Beauty makes me happy so what better way than to celebrate with a color-changing fave.

So far, my faves are the brands LeChat Perfect Match and Gel II Reaction. Using my home UV light, I’m able to give myself a complete gel manicure which lasts perfectly, without cracking 7-9 days. Usually, each bottle has a 2-color transformative base for example, Gel II’s color R125 “Hawaiian Hurricane” changes from light to dark blue. I’m wearing this now! Visit @boldbrightbeauty1 on Instagram to see the true color and transformative video!

I was first introduced to the mood-changing gel manicure at a posh little salon in DC. I was completely infatuated with the idea of a polish that actually changed with my mood however, when the nail technician wiped the slate clean with a cool alcohol doused cotton ball, mid mood nostalgia, I realized; temperature was the true culprit.

The method to the mood factor is temperature. Our natural body temperature is 98.6 degrees, with slightly cooler fingertips. An elevation or decrease in body temperature will alter the nail polish color; lightening or darkening depending on the brand.

Granted, the science of mood-changing polish is a lot less romantic as I thought, but hey, guys don’t know that! The next time you’re mad at you’re hunny, run your gel manicure under a cool bath and blame him for the change! LOL
